Fossil coral is a type of gemstone that is made from fossilized coral. The term “fossil coral” is often used to refer to ancient coral specimens that have been mineralized, or replaced by minerals such as calcite or silica, preserving the original coral structure. The resulting stone often has intricate patterns and colors that are unique to each piece. Fossil coral or agatized coral is also much harder than precious coral. Most agatized fossil coral exhibits interesting skeletal-like ancient coral patterns, most often appearing in flower shapes.
- Natural fossilized coral set in a fine silver scalloped bezel
- Hand sawn and shaped 11/16" wide x 1 5/8" high sterling base
- Base is hand textured with a very fine point pattern
- Half round wire is formed to a point and soldered to the base bottom for added interest
- Suspended, lightweight and moveable
- Earrings hang 2 and 1/8" from ear lobes with handmade sterling ear wires
