Fossil Coral, or agatized coral, is a natural gemstone that forms when the calcium carbonate of prehistoric coral is dissolved by acidic groundwater and replaced by silica. This process can take over 20 million years and occurs under unique geological conditions. In many coastal communities, coral has long been associated with protection, regeneration, and the cyclical nature of life. Some believe that fossilized coral has metaphysical properties, such as promoting emotional balance and enhancing intuition.
Wearing fossilized coral jewelry can be a way to connect with the Earth's history and the interconnectedness of all living things.
- Natural fossilized coral with interesting skeletal-like ancient coral patterns, appearing in flower shapes. Set in a fine silver scalloped bezel
- Hand sawn 5/8" wide x 1 1/2" high sterling base
- Base is hand textured with a very fine point pattern
- Half round wire is formed to a point and soldered to the base bottom for added interest
- Suspended, lightweight and moveable
- Earrings hang 2 and 1/8" from ear lobes with handmade sterling ear wires
