Larimar is a very rare precious gemstone found exclusively in the Caribbean, on the island of Hispaniola. It is only found in a dormant, volcanic mountain range in the Baoruco Mountain of the Dominican Republic. A Peace Corps worker and a native Dominican found the specimens on the beach in 1970s, where it had washed down from the mountains. They named the gemstone Larimar, combining the name Larissa (said to be the Dominican islander’s daughter), a young woman with brilliant blue eyes, and “mar”, the Spanish word for the sea.
Larimar is said to enlighten and heal in a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual way. It represents peace and clarity, radiating healing and love energy. Keep your Larimar jewelry close to the heart for tranquility, calm and clarity of verbal and emotional communication.
