Fossil coral is a type of gemstone that is made from fossilized coral. The term “fossil coral” is often used to refer to ancient coral specimens that have been mineralized, or replaced by minerals such as calcite or silica, preserving the original coral structure. The resulting stone often has intricate patterns and colors that are unique to each piece. Fossil coral or agatized coral is also much harder than precious coral. Most agatized fossil coral exhibits interesting skeletal-like ancient coral patterns. The stingray one has a black and white pattern, resembling the back of a sting ray.
